Toothbrush Hygiene and Etiquette
No one can argue the importance of dental cleaning. Even though people have been doing it their whole lives, they still don’t always do it right. Knowing toothbrush etiquette can make all the difference.
Proper brushing technique can change the propensity for cavities, gingivitis, and other such mouth-borne illnesses. Even brushing two minutes twice a day can make a profound impact. Four essential steps can help. Brush before bed and right in the morning using circular motions, while not applying too much pressure. Floss every day, usually before bed that way all food particles are dispersed. Limit snacks and visit the dentist every six months for exams and cleanings.
Caring for your mouth, teeth, and gums shouldn’t take a back seat. This begins and ends with the toothbrush. Do not share them, as this increases risk of infection. Thoroughly rinse brushes and store upright. Don’t cover them or put them in closed containers, as this causes growth of bad microorganisms. It’s also important to replace toothbrushes every three to four months, as the bristles grow worn and frayed. That means effectiveness decreases.
Being in the know can make all the difference between a healthy mouth and someone who needs to see the dentist far too frequently. The best way to brush is by holding it along the gum line at an angle and moving in a circular motion. Brush the inside of each tooth and all around. Brush the chewing surface and the backs of teeth with light, meticulous strokes. Keeping the right hygiene and etiquette may just help when it matters most.
