Differences between Lumineers and Dental Veneers
Lumineers are a custom-designed, wafer thin porcelain veneer that is designed to give you a beautiful smile without the extensive preparation often required of traditional veneers. There are no shots and no drilling, and these easy, reversible no-prep veneers can be placed in just two visits.
Traditional dental veneers can take multiple dental visits over the course of several months. They may also be called crowns or caps. Traditional dental veneers require extensive removal of sensitive tooth structure. This process is not reversible and can even be painful. Once the teeth are prepared, temporary veneers are placed to protect the sensitive teeth until the permanent veneers have been crafted by the dental lab.
No-prep veneers are different. Because they are so thin, they can be placed directly over your own natural teeth, which means none of your enamel must be removed. Once our dentist takes a mold of your teeth, it will be sent to the dental lab, which will make your new veneers exactly to specifications. When they are ready, you will return to have them fitted and bonded to your teeth.
Lumineers may not be the right choice for every person. However, if you have chipped or cracked teeth, worn enamel, deeply stained teeth, misshapen teeth, gapped or misaligned teeth, or you just want a bright, new Hollywood smile, they might be the right choice for you.
